K98 sniper

I found a k98 sniper at a gun store in this small town not far from me. I am wondering how to tell if it is real. I know the scope and mount isn't real but the mount that is attached to the side of the receiver looks to be original. I looked at all the numbers on the receiver including the bolt all match, I'm just not that familiar with the k98 snipes. I'm going to go back and look at it again and take pictures of it.
 
If it is attached to the side, then most likely it is either Short Side Rail or Long Side Rail.

For Short Side Rail the rifle should either be a SS Gew98 to K98k conversion (no receiver code visible, Deaths Head stamps on barrel shank), or be a ce coded receiver. It could also be a Mauser Banner receiver.
For Long Side Rail the rifle should be with either ce or bcd coded receiver, with dates to 1944 (could either be 44 or simply 4) or 1945 (then 45).

These are general rules and should allow you a very quick first assessment if it would pass the 99% test. There though are some oddities which do not fulfill the above mentioned critics and are nevertheless original.

I have pictures of rifle on question but cannot figure out how to post them. The rifle is all matching number including the bolt, and the bolt matches the rifle. I took the top handguard off and it matches the rifle as well. I would love to post the pictures on here for everyone to look at them and give me an idea of this is a true sniper I know the scope is a repo. The rifle is marked bcd 43.
 
As others have said, this is a reproduction Long Side Rail mount on an incorrect receiver date atop.

Quite possibly. There was an idiot I met on another forum about 15-20 years ago, sometime in the early 00s. He was asking for advice on how to spot a good, matching K98k specifically because he wanted a good rifle to build a repro sniper off of. That was his whole thing - building repro snipers using more affordable but still high condition base rifles. IIRC he had a bunch of different guns that he'd done up like that, and he was quite proud of his little collection.
 
Too bad someone messed up what was said to have been a matching rifle. I have made shooter clones from mis matched sporter rescues rifles but never ever a matching rifle. Pre war Ogee Berlin civilian scope but better than Chinese knock off. Goot shooter too.

Then you had guys like Tankdriver on gunboards, who butchered original matching rifles to make fake snipers. Once he was busted he started telling some story about his kid being sick, which is crazy, because his kid wasn’t sick when he sold a Stuart tank to a friend of mine and (allegedly) kept a bunch of valuable parts from it. Per my friend, TD was like “oh, those pieces weren’t part of the deal…” when confronted about the missing stuff. Maybe it was a sick mother or something that time?

Some people just suck and money brings out the worst in them. Plus, every hobby ends up attracting a halo of people who are trying to turn a fast buck with it. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against people who turn a hobby into a business and god knows that I'm more than happy to make a few bucks when I move a gun I bought ages ago and it's appreciated since then. But there are always people who see it more as a way to make some cash than as a hobby to be enjoyed, and those are the ones that you'll find doing scammy crap and faking stuff and outright stealing if they get the chance.

I've seen it in coins, I've seen it in trading cards, I've seen it in electronics and computer equipment, and I've sure as hell seen it in guns. edit: both of the collectable/milsurp variety and modern production practical/target/tactical variety.
