I was watching an auction on this K98 and when it ended with such a low price I decided to come on here and see why. I am in the market for a k98 and was looking into bidding on this one but I missed out on the auction. There are not many pictures but I will post the link to the auction. Can anyone tell me why this went for the price it did? I dont see any Russian capture markings but I could be overlooking something.

No bolt pictures, stocks looks a little rough - possibly refinished (hard to tell). Labeled as Mauser 98, so less people probably saw it. Sometimes sleeper auction happen.
I was thinking the stock was refinished also.. do all Russian capture k98 have the X on the receiver?

Auctions like that are a real roll of the dice. For what it ended up at, it would be hard to get hurt too bad. It's probably worth that in parts even if the bolt and stock are mismatched.

Looking at the bid history the winner really wanted that rifle. I feel like I probably would have been in a bidding war with him if I didn’t miss the auction and it would have gone for closer to $1000

I was watching this one. I feel it went for about retail. Stock has been messed with. It’s definitely not matching. Since it has an early front band. Factor in fees and shipping. It would be over $800 for a mismatched K98k. Thats retail imo.
