Very nice indeed. Nothing compares to the early ones that "saw it all". Is the sling early as well?

Oh God this has got to be a stickie for reference, no? If only to keep Bruce's rifles company. Unless I missed something it looks like every part is original an matching to the screws. Thanks for sharing this!

I agree Mow, the stories this rifle could probably tell. At least I'd like to envision them.

Nice example Al of a very hard to find rifle..Even with a MM bolt its still a rifle worth owning IMHO and this one is still in very nice Used condition..

Mauser Oberndorf K date

Oberndorf K dates are extremely scarce, nearly up there with S/243G, Ax/ar41 and 660-1939.
I my years of collecting, only 3 good ones have come up for sale and that is nearly 40 years.

Seems its easier to get an S/147K than a S/42K.

Finally here are some internal photos of this old K date including barrel code.I was pleased to find the cleaning rod was matching and proofed P/74.Band spring had a faint Eagle just visible.I didn"t expect the internal blue to be as good as it is,nearly 100%.enjoy.Notice the Scriptic S under the reciever, these are seen on early K date Lugers.

Walked into my LGS this week and noticed two new rifles on the rack he had gotten from an estate. One was a very nice 33/40 which he had priced accordingly. The other was tagged as a 1942 k98k, all matching. I asked him how he knew it was a '42 and he said it must be, it's stamped right on the top! I could only smile, but my ethics got the best of me and I told him what it was. (the price went up!) 20230718_132210.jpgHas a repo sling and a non-matching '37 bayonet with it.
