Dear lord, how are there still people butchering these things? That's just painful to look at
 
There was a period about 20 years ago where you could still get these for ~$1k and it some people wanted them as the base for their custom gun because of the whole "nazi battle rifle" mystique.

There's one I've seen pictures of that resurfaces now and again where the stock was cut off and replaced with an MP40 underfolder and the barrel shortened down as well. I forget at this point if it was all the way down in SBR territory or if it was aping the other early 2000s WW2 rifle fad - the "tanker" conversion.
 
I can see that. Sorta like 10-15 years ago when all the cheap $99.00 SKS rifles came in and all the crazy things people did to them (and still do).
