Just pick up my first 98k. All matching #s from 1940 with 660 factory code.

Can't completely see the letter block but it looks like it's in the E block. But it looks just like a nice combat carried rifle. Has that nice carry wear look to it. Other then that its an nice early Steyr made k98k. This code is some what elusive and scarce to you, don't see it very often.

I don't know if I would shoot this rifle a lot because it's all matching. And breaking a part would devalue the rifle as a collectible. But I wouldn't be afraid to take it out a couple times a year and get some nice range time with it.

But remember alot of other mismatched K98k rifles that go bang versus the all matching ones. And finding one like this by this maker, this early is not easy.

Looks like a nice rifle! Most of it looks to be in rather nice shape, just mostly worn on the bands which is typical depending on how the rifle was handled. For sure do not shoot it as it sits, or that stock will be toast! The cross bolt is completely loose, also be very careful tightening it.

Nice rifle. I’d like to see more photos. I vote for not shooting it. There are millions of non collectible
Condition mausers. Shoot one of those.

Thanks for the info so far. I forgot to mention that it is missing the cleaning rod. About how much should I expect to pay for an original replacement? And are the rods numbered? And if so, how much would having a mismatched rod effect the value?

Nice Steyr!

If you do plan to shoot it, switch out the firing pin and spring and claw extractor with replacement ones and hold the originals safely.

Another vote for not shooting it. I like it. Bluing looks quite decent on most metal parts. Perhaps someone here can help with the cleaning rod.

I have to agree with what the others said. I would probably shoot it maybe 1 magazine AFTER you tighten the cross lug but I surely wouldn't use it as 'a shooter'. Quite nice condition and being all matching down to the screws really increases the value for collectors. Also you sling band is backwards (common). Great find on an elusive rifle!

Oh and Steyr inspection team was WaA623

Looking forward to more pictures! I picked up a matched d block a while back with a stock issue

I remember buying this one at estate auction almost four years ago. Sold it later too a fellow collector and a friend. Hard too believe how much I have learned over the years compared to what I knew then. It was in the m block.
