Just arrived. Israeli semi Kriegsmodell

Thanks for the link. Yup they have all the features of mine.
OK, understand. FN fulfilled a contract & built it according to the specs. Know I've frustrated y'all and apologize for that. Thanks Dan & all others who tried to help me

Much appreciated

The hole in the buttplate is an evolutionary feature, like the cupped buttplate itself. Once they went to that feature, they didn't go back to flat buttplates. FN didn't 'invent' the takedown hole concept but adopted it when they later manufactured this rifle.

Yes, I understand that. It's a feature the Israelis were familiar with when they used the rifles from the Czech's.

Appreciate your input. Sorry my ignorance caused ya'll so much grief.

No problemo for me. Honestly your repeated questions led to deeper discussions and some solid content IMHO.

Exactly! The Czechoslovakians also transitioned to the same setup on their post war production. It was a simple, cost saving solution for having the bolt takedown option on the rifle stock as minimal as possible! Possible the Israelis requested that simple addition from FN as they may have found it useful on the Czech rifles they had.

Thank you Stan, I appreciate it. The folks on this site, know the K98k inside & out. Really would hate to lose this forum as a resource. This is the only site I've joined. Hoping to hear from others as well - Mike

How does one recover from making bonehead statements (out of ignorance)? I Google still didn't catch the info which would have helped me understand.
Accept correction and move on, just like everything else in life. Also, for any given subject, find places to hang out where you are the dumbest person in the room. That is how you learn the most, most quickly. If you find you are the smart one, go find somewhere else where you are the dumbest, or at worst the people are peers.

In regards to this rifle, you found the place with smart people and accepted their correction when shown you were wrong about something. Keep doing that and you will go far.

Also, enjoy the rifle. It looks nice and the crest is really neat. Take care of it, shoot it from time to time, and each time remember to keep learning!

Thanks again to all who helped me understanding the origins of this rifle & educating me in the process. Now I have an excuse to track down a K98k which went & served with the IDF.
