Is this a legit ZF41 and price?

Hey all,

I’m wanting to know if this ZF41 and mount is not a repro. I have an all matching BYF 43. Wanting to know if this version of the scope would be correct and the mount is marked DUV. Did BYF ever make the mounts to cause I haven’t seen one yet. Trying to get an idea on value too. Pics are in the link below. Thanks!

Well, the can and scope should be number the same. The can should also contain a cloth (yellow) and brush. The scope mount looks original but I don't like the ser# . If you want more information or picture PM me.

It is hard to say for sure with these pictures. Not all cans where numbered so this could be an original un-numbered can. The scope is real and the mount looks real but the numbering has to be fake, there should not be a 6 digit serial number on it. For this reason alone I would pass on it. Value is hard to give because numbered can/scope sets bring one price, early mounts another price, and so on. Check out my website in my signature and even better info on the ZF41 is Ken's website here.

I would bet that that mount and rig are from one of the Gustloff Zf41 equipped KKWs.
Might want to consider that.

That certainly is possible. The scope is a early Type II scope. But the rings are on backwards. So maybe this was pieced together by a collector.

Bruce is right .

Scarce ZF41 for KKW Gustloff . 6 digits rifle serial number on mount .

Can is 100% fake . "French connexion"

ZF41 and can

I would be nice to setup a sticky to compare the better reproduction cans against real ones.

So it would not be correct for a K98 but the KKW's used the same mount and scope? Does that make it any more value or do you have an idea on price?

The mount was originally on a scarce Gustloff KKW setup for the ZF41.
Technically, it would fit on a K98k but to me belongs on a KKW - being anal here.

ZF41 rigs are not scarce and should be fairly easy to locate, just be patient.
Scope and mount should be in the 750-950 range depending on condition and shape of the optics.

Prices on these at one time were expensive but just like ZF4s, good time to buy one.

Most lack any serials and were either never mounted or used late war.

Current thread

Wayne is correct in the known serial range for ZF41 equipped rifles.
I have seen one other ZF41 with a 6-digit engraved number but do not recall SN or range.

Question remains - why a 6-digit number in wrong SN range for KKW ZF rifles.

Post war, collector enhancement,...?

My thought was the number was a Zf41 scope number added to the mount for whatever reason, either period done or postwar. The range is good for that at least, and there is precedence for putting scope serial numbers on mounts. I'm not saying it's a valuable or even original numbering, just a possibility. Either way there is no way to prove any of it and it makes it a "shooter" grade mount.

Yep thats what I thought after going back to the images.
Early ZF4 mounts had both the scope number and rifle number marked on the mount.

So would ya'll still get it for $500-600 then if the number could be from a scope. The numbers on the mount don't match the current scope and looks like its missing the sun shield.

There is not a lot to loose at that price IMO. Let the experts opine to help you, not me.

Well all, I snagged up just the scope for $250. I found a mount that is unnumbered that should be a good pair. Now I just need to find the sunshade.
