I dont know how to word it but I've seen a good few r/c's with the wood stove paint crap on it, but I've come across a few of them that have a really deep black kind of sheen to them.

Is there a way to have the Russian stove paint be, lightened? I'm not sure how to word it, like the metal having so much grit to it that it feels like sandpaper. I'm not sure if soaking the metal in clp would hurt anything or if that would help it not look like gravel.

I like the look of the r/c's with the deep black sheen to them but I dont know if they have been reblued or not
I dont have any pictures of the deep black ones I seen but it was at a gun show so I didn't know if it would be worth me pursuing if it might be faked.

It has seemed to me there were almost different 'grades' of RC refurbs. Some are VERY sloppy and crudely finished while some seem quite handsome for lack of a better word. Seeing these side by side really hits in the quality of the execution/materials.

It's weird how wide of a range in quality there is. Some look like they had removed all of the finish and left it but the stocks don't look different from each other, while others look like the really bad stove paint that is like chalk and others just have paint over them. But I've saw a vendor who had a few of them that looked like they had either a heavy coat of oil or shoe polish that seem to pick up fingerprints.

It had white paint in all stamps I'm not sure if that helps at all but I know that was a thing that people used to do with them but I didn't knoe if they were reblued or not because the metal on them looked so good.

I'll second that. You can have some really decent looking finishes. If you get one of those deep black ones they're nice.

I doubt anyone would try and re-blue an RC and leave it as a Russian black. Usually when you find people messing with RC finishes they're trying to polish down to the original German finish or they put on a more traditional blue or phosphate it.

I've seen a good few Russian captures faked to look like matching examples, just the stock was changed but the metal was scrubbed so all the Russian markings were gone.

Oh yeah, people try to fake RC's into being matching guns. What I'm saying is that you don't really see people refinishing RC's to look like prettier RC's. If you're going to do that you aim a bit higher.

Yeah I guess that makes sense, but I still wouldn't put it past somebody to make them look like the better ones and charge them as they are.
