Interesting looking Zielsechs on E-Bay..

First off the picture with the soldier cleaning his rifle does not have a zielsechs on it.

Couple of things are wrong...a Zielsechs in the 75K range shouldnt be missing the base of the turret, and the reticles are all wrong..too skinny & too far apart...and thats just for starters.

A put together IMHO.

Seller has a sold questionable items in the past also.

so this one in Spain is a real pos - if you take care to study the pics it is obvious someone has hacked off the 'legs' of the rings, and seller tries to infer its no drama to get the rest off - no drama if you know how to totally disassemble the scope and re-build it after you take the remaining parts of the now useless rings off, then you will also need to do a re-blue

the scope rings spacing indicates it was set up for a driiling or single shot and has been butchered to try to fit it on a bolt action

someone else can tell you the remaining bad news

That's what I thought....I was browsing for scopes/mounts for my project and came across that.

There is a Zielvier in the exact same configuration for sale as well.

Thought i'd post it to see if others thought it was as bazaar as I did

On another note, how does this one look? seems legit to me?

Hello All,

Well with regards to the Zielsechs I was with you also on post war shananagans till more poped up in the last year or so. the new owner has now modified it from its original function. they ADDED a 1-8 with stop, then they ADDED a focus dial and NOW made the ELEVATION functionable again. they repaired the extended sun/rain shield and made it longer as it was altered by being cut at an angle which these alts are very common from this seller, buyer beware. I have been told and still collecting data on the very TINY run of fixed flak or other intented use commercial scopes. in this small pocket of Zeiss Zielsechs Featherlight scopes they had the scope rail installed or was factory removed so far. i have now 3 observations all with in the 75377-75530 serial range. please see pics of one i picked upped that is in unaltered form in its orignal factory produced model with correct reticule. the ones you see in the auction looks like they flipped the reticule frame and clipped the 3rd bar. I am still hunting down what there intended use is but its funnny this little serial block of scopes are all in this form and have to be for a reason unknown yet to me at least. the focus tower mounts facing down so reticule center post comes from the bottom and is also why the rain/sun shade drip holes are aligned facing the tower has to be some sort of flak or other aiming/targeting device. You can do NO elevatin movement and the big CAP you see is to adj the focus only.

later
vaughn

Thanks for weighing in, Vaughn :hail:

I'm not looking to purchase it or the Ajack (which is up to $375 now ) I also posted, just posted links for everyone to see and comment.

I'm a layman with these things but the silver scope was certainly strange to me.

You may remember I bought a post war Zielsechs with those ugly rails on bottom; you advised me I could remove them and use it for SSR set up.

Would you mind if I asked you how you removed them/mounted it on a rifle with the SSR mount, given the mount is 1mm in diameter smaller than the tube?

I have an excellent gunsmith (from Germany, ironically) who is also a fitter/machinist by trade as well, he is who I will get to build my clone SSR sniper for me, but any/all info will help ALOT

Cheers

I've looked at your railed Zielsechs fotos - personally I think railed mounting is a great system

do you realise if you use your Zielsechs as it is (with the rail left on) you could assemble a virtual clone of an SS commercial type sniper rifle?

to fit the front mounting base onto any 98k your 'gunsmith' would only need to machine a dovetail into the front receiver top

fitting the rear mount base should be just as easy - the rear mount base could be screw fitted/soldered to the rear receiver bridge - so gunsmith would need to drill some small screw holes

the beauty of the rail mount system is this : the mounting point on the rail can be moved anywhere on the rail - in your case it would need to go further back so that instead of being set up for a drilling or single shot as it now is, it is reset to suit the distance necessary to fit the scope on a 98k action

re-positioning on the rail is accomplished by drilling a new screw hole in the rail at the correct distance to suit the width between the front and rear receiver sections of the 98k action

usually railed scopes have several screw holes along the rail length and you choose the right one in order to adjust to different widths on different guns - the rail you have has only been drilled once to suit only one gun that is why you would need to get your gunsmith to drill an extra screw hole(s) to suit a 98k

should be that easy!

My knowledge of K98 snipers only extends to the military manufactured ones (courtesy of this forum),could you shed some light on SS commercial snipers? I thought the SS used their versions of Wehrmacht SSR snipers and the like? Cheers.:happy0180:
