Inherited K98...Looking for Info

Hello All,

I am new here and I have inherited a K98 from my father after he passed recently. He had this rifle as long as I can remember and I am now 48.
He was stationed over in Germany in the early 1960's and I think this is when he picked it up. It has a very rough stock. When asked about it, he told me that
it was from very late in the war and they were just trying to get as many weapons as possible out to the troops.
I love guns but I love modern guns. This gun would just sit in my safe. I think there might be a collector out there that would appreciate it more than I.
I would like to have thoughts and comments and possible what it may be worth to sell.

good news bad news.. good news is its a bnz45 with a bnz45 bolt but, mismatched. The stock is junk but the rest is well worth restoring. Post an add in the trader. Even if its not 100% correct the stock and bands you add will be miles above what you have.. A legit bnz45 stock will be hard to find. I think Lez in Poland makes solid beech and walnut k98k stocks. That's an option as well.

Neat to see another BNZ45 posted here you don't see many of them. Too bad about the stock though but you can find a replacement. And if I was you I wouldn't sale that rifle. Believe it should be kept in your family honestly I have a few firearms from my late father that I would never sale. Because once these family treasures are gone its hard to get them back. If you decide to sale it I hope you get a good price for it. As for a selling price with a mismatched bolt, stock has been cut, and the rest of the parts are matching to the rifle. You may get $800 for the rifle because it is a BNZ45 and they didn't make many of them. Remember when the bolt is mismatched and the stock is cut it takes away alot of value. For the price I gave you may get more money but you could get less hope this helps.

Actually bnz45's are exceptionally common IMO. We captured the factory and it seems like just about all of them came back here. M99 laid out the options you have nicely. If you were to sell, figure $200 for the bolt $250 or so for the action, then another $100 or so for the triggerguard and floorplate. Stock unfortunately is firewood, a correct one will run $1000 if you can find one.

stock is a cut up VZ24 stock so not the correct wood for the rifle any way. most barreled actions matching have been in the 450.00 range you would get more parting it out but if sold as a whole rifle as it sits would end in the 350+ Range

I own one 23 rifles later. Pretty close. Haha.


Personally I would also keep it. My dad gave me a clapped out 22, but it's the only family gun, so it's on the no sell list.

And bnz45 are common enough. A lot chopped up too.

I think we have more bnz45 in the pic sticky then any other rifle.
