Purchased it today and I'm curious... My receiver has the Markings BYF which I know means Odendorf.. and the number 44 which means 1944.. but, in the center there's an X.. which I heard was supposed to be a Russian capture but the importer mark says it imported from Germany... So, does anyone know what the X is for?.. if it's not a Russian capture...

Mate. It sure looks like a RC to me. I have a couple of RC's and it is exactly the same mark. Most if not all will at some be imported from Europe. I know one of mine was captured on the eastern front and then years later imported to Australia via the US.

The importer mark shows who imported it and typically which country manufactured it. It is a Russian capture and rebuild though.

It's not a Mitchell's I wouldn't buy one of those fakes... I know it's not worth as much in the collector market as a numbers matching K98K but, even though it's a RC it still shoots well and is a Mauser action.. and that's all that matters to me.
