Identifying Zielsechs scope

Hello everyone,

I’ve been browsing my local auctions and found this scope, which I instantly and ,without really thinking about it, bought. I can’t make up what it is, as it has no serial, only the symbol on the picture. What’s more, I have no idea what mounting system it could use because of the underrail. It seems to not fit into any claw mounts and I haven’t found any mounts that would use this kind of rail. I think its an original but I’m not that sure and knowledgeable.I was browsing the forum, looking at pictures and trying to find out but with no success. Maybe it’s some sort of post war scope with new mounting method? As I said, I’m clueless and hoping someone knowledgeable would be able to help me figure this mystery of mine.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you, I found some pictures of the ones you sent, but what confuses me is that there are no screw holes on the side of the rail for a mount, only two on the bottom which doesn’t seem to fit any of the typical mounts, or at least the ones used by the German army at that time. Could this scope maybe be used on some other rifle?

There wouldn’t be screw holes in the side when new, the point of the long dovetail, was the versatility to fit various spacing. The rail gets the ring mounting holes drilled in place once they are fit to a rifle. Someone obviously tried to rig something with this scope at some point. These dural scopes with rails start showing up prewar, and production continued after.

Thank you for your answers. I have one more question: My original idea was to put the scope on my Kar98. It is just an acoustic one and sadly made from an original. Its not a sniper model neither, but as Im a part of a reenactor group I wanted to at least make myself happy by having the scoped kar and filling the sniper role. Partially because kids are atrracted to sniper rifles the same as i am and its fun to see them excited when they see it and to tell them something about the gun, its history and a role of the sniper in that era. So after this long prologue: As i said before, i havent really seen any pictures of snipers rocking this specific scope, but i guess for the reenactment purposes it should do just fine. But is it possible to get (for example HT mount) and make it look as time accurate as possible? From the pictures of these scopes with mounts on it, e.g. the one Dave sent, it seems it wont work with the HT or other mount, as all of them use rings to fit the scope. Thank you.
