I need help identyfing if this sniper rifle is real

I know i guy that wants to sell this kar98k to me for a good price. Its a matching 1944 mauser that is said to be a sniper rifle. The scope is a K.Kahles scope made in wien from what i can tell. marked H/4*60 and i have doubts related to the mounts. They look completely different from what i found everywhere on the internet. The guy wants not much for it but i still want to know if its a real sniper or someone modified it to look like one.
 
For one… the bolt handle has been ground down, most likely to clear the scope. That’s not a good sign…

The scope though used to be an original German WWII sniper scope. It does look like someone messed around and possibly shortened the rainshield a bit. The scope rings on it are not original to the scope.
