As the title says, what's the marker for a real vs. repop.
Buddy just picked up a K98k with a Gew98 cover marked W.Co. DRP

Will post up pics when he stops over.

Also whats current worth of real one.

Thanks,
B.

Here's a thread I did on these a while back

The fakes range from scary good to utter garbage. Sarco did some really good ones back in the '80s that look convincing until you see the rounded opening over the bolt shroud. The real ones are contoured. (That is the one pictured above by Wolfgang)

The other repos you tend to see are badly blued and have a coppery finish on the retainer tab and front part of the assembly.

There are also some very good older repros that have a crown/D acceptance. The giveaway with those is that the acceptance is a block D rather than a script one.

The real ones will have acceptance on top of both the front and rear assembly and should have uniform finish and usually some age to them though I have seen some that are an excellent condition. A few companies made them, but Weißenburger (W.Co) are the most frequently seen..

Value today here in the States is about $800 to 1000 depending on how bad you want one. I've paid less but that seems to be more the exception anymore.
