This is a Marlin Rockwell made (after the H&A bankruptcy but using H&A parts) Belgian 1889 Mauser rifle. This rifle likely wasn't delivered until after WW1 to the Belgian government. Perhaps it was captured during WW2 and converted into 8.15x46R? As originally made it was in 7.65x53 the standard Belgian service round of the time. The receiver has also been cleaned to "In the white", in Belgian service the receiver would've been blued but the German 8mm Mauser conversions of the Belgian 89 Mausers during WW1 also had "In the white" receivers.

You would need to pull the barrel jacket off and take a look. Did the proof house tell you it was 8.15x46r when they reproofed it? If not what makes you think it is 8.15x46r?

I would not be surprised if it were rebarreled to that sporting caliber. Especially if it original came out of a country like france that is strict on military calibers.
