just purchased a k98 Mauser. from what I can tell it is German from the little research I did on it. hoping y'all can help with some other markings! pictures below.everything matches serial 8005, bcd 42, barrel says FN16/361941 . some stamps on the bottom that have the number 77. 3 letters on the butt that I am are assuming are initials and 43 . pretty clean all in all . hope to gain some insight on it, thanks!

Dear Lord that takedown disc! OP, you're certainly not the first (or likely last) to be disappointed when they found out what a MM was in reality.

Also, I didn't realize they hogged off that much material from the bolt face.

For 150$ it was a gamble I was willing to take at the moment. There’s a few more that I can get my hands on. One being a pretty weatherd looking Czech k98. Also 150.and a Hungarian mosin. Not a huge loss. Was just hoping for some historical value.

For $150 it will probably be a good shooter and no great loss. Many new collectors pay much more than that for their “education”. Please come here first and ask any moderator an opinion before you buy another one!
I appreciate it!

Good deal. Elderly Family friend who has no family himself has only a few months to live. He’s selling them all to us cheap as long as we keep them. Has some garands(trying to swoop one up) m95 steyr’s , multiple k98s and mosins along with many modern firearms. It’s a sad story, but something I’ll pass on to my own children with time.

As stated above state, a shooter with faked restamped matching numbers. See my old write up on RC Russian Captures and Mitchell attributes if you do not know anything about average dog K98ks. The experts here know more than just about every person when it comes to real K98k rifles. Check out the reference page: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/picture-reference-index.45/
The above reference page is a treasure trove of real K98k information
my old post on TB is just a quick review of attributes and the types of K98ks found back years ago at gun shows: https://www.treasurebunker.com/foru...fle-overview-commonly-found-on-the-us-market/

What exactly are they trying to accomplish by doing this? Hiding the fact its an RC?

Get the Czech and that mosin. Now.

You stole that thing for $150. Even Mitchell’s Mausers are hitting $1000 on Gunbroker…. Why, I do not know.

They are excellent shooters and functional rifles, and a great rifle to take a deer with.

I'll buy it off of you for $450 if you are down.
Open to negotiation.
Looking for a shooter that I won't feel too badly about taking hiking.
