Grips P08 1942

Hello everyone, it is with pleasure that I present to you here a pair of grips that we find on the P08 pistols. This pair of grips presents the same details as the photos of the original grips that I observed. I will be very grateful for your opinions! I was able to observe fibers caught in the bakelite. I suppose this can be used to reinforce the plastic material, has anyone ever observed such a thing on this type of grips?
Thank you for your opinions and observations!!!
Alex

It will seem after cleaning them that it is like a little cord that is inside. Do you know if this mixture of materials was normal on this type of object?

I believe the way to test is with a hot needle and the flick test. If they melt when touched with a hot needle they will melt. If they are Bakelite they will not melt

I just looked through my library and pulled out the excellent book by Darwin WEAVER which explains the use of plastics during the Second World War. The use of fibers is well explained and was used to reinforce the piece.
So the presence of cotton fiber in this pad is a good sign? I think? :)

There is a needle test for these. Something to the tune of heat up a needle and touch a spot on the back. If it melts, reproduction.

More recent repros pass the “needle test”. The new pics are far better. However, the detail and appearance of the checkering is not “crisp” to me like originals, nor do the backs or composition look right. For me they look like repros which were worn and aged artificially. I’m far from the P.08 RKI though and would suggest the opinions of others here or at the Jan Still Luger forum.
