After a couple years, http://www.gewehr98.com/ is back up, finished it yesterday, for those that knew it several years go, you will notice it is radically different with much more information about the rifles and what is important when collecting them. I will also begin a blog soon on the site, one that is very much like the one on the MRJ site, but devoted to Gewehr98 and Kar.98a subjects, or the manufacturers. The MRJ site blog will continue, but focus on a wider range of rifles.

Check it out and if you like the subject, sign up for the blog posts. (The MRJ blog has a good number of posts regarding the G98 & K98 also)

Links in the signature.

Thanks Wayne!

I am sure Mike remembers, but he started this internet site for me years ago, he even designed the first one and got it off the ground! So, Mike is the father of Gewehr98.com, I was content with the little thing I had before, about the kar.98k mostly, but now, with Mikes help and encouragement, it has evolved into a dual website with numerous articles on collecting the Modell98 military rifle!

I can hardly take credit, I do remember doing a few things, you really have turned MRJ and now Gewehr98.com into modern, easily accessible and informative sites.

I don't mean you authored the site, or wrote the content, but as i recall, you emailed me and said you could modernize it or improve upon the 3rd grade website i had up on the 98k... you found Gewehr98.com not taken and registered it and did the work to set it up. I think you even paid for it initially.

Anyway, I probably would have never have started the site without your efforts, that is all, - and in many ways, the website has been the source for much of my research. At one time i was getting several questions a week from people curious about their rifle or wanting to sell one (though most were nothing special)

For collectors like you, someone who has datasheeted their rifles for my research, you can email anytime for help!

Awesome, right into my favorite list...can't wait to study it closely....

Well done Paul, glad to see the site back!

Just one question: Do you ever sleep???!

Pat

Thanks Pat!

Yes, I am getting old, I sleep all the time, - worse when I watch television I want to go back to bed...

I haven't covered the Kar.98a yet, as was done on the old site, but will soon. Right now working on the SDP-1940 thread, for the MRJ blog, though also have the first one for the Gewehr98.com in the works, a shorty, but as so few have followed the blog, I will not waste a lot of time doing a thorough examination of a subject.

Hello,

are you going to write about 1938 Steyr production rifles?? or are you only doing K98 rifles? the G29 (o) is the only 1938 rifle built so far?

Vaughn, On the Gewehr98 website? No, I will not be covering anything but the Gewehr98 and kar.98a on that site, though I will probably cover both variations through the interwar and NS era, but the G12/34, no, it was already mentioned on the MRJ website, possibly a couple times as i have written a great deal about SDP there... but, yes, so far the only SDP Modell98 production for 1938 seems to be a few G12/34, or if you prefer the G29ö

Actually, the first blog post on Gewehr98.com will probably be on the Vatican commercial G98's, they bought some before WWI, but it will be also posted here on the Imperial forum on this site... thinking about doing something on Amberg too, been working on the trends for Amberg, might as well do a brief post on them too, maybe something about stock changes. The Bavarian's were a pretty consistent maker, not much to write about them, they didn't seem to create much drama with their production. One year pretty much follows another...

is it just me?

Trying to access the site on my phone the last few days. Keep getting 500 internal server errors..

Thanks KJ, - yes, someone on Gunboards says they have trouble accessing it on handheld devices, I do not own one, so I can't test that out. Usually works on regular computers...
