Gewehr 98 Spandau 1915 2367s

Recent pick up from a forum member; thanks @MichaelWC! This 1915 Spandau went through Köln and received a salvaged replacement stock. The stock is overstruck externally and the receiver serial is pencilled in not far from the original in the barrel channel. (The numbered on the metal weren't altered.) Everything else except the ejector box seems to be factory matching, and the acceptance is consistent with earlier wartime Spandaus. It’s definitely a warhorse, though had some significant cleaning in the past.

The unit mark is neat, R.J.R.212.2.K.67. I didn’t have an example of a wartime marking, so that’s a welcomed addition to the collection. https://wiki.genealogy.net/RIR_212

Barrel and sights. Note the lack of acceptance on the front sight post.

Depot matched stock, which I think came from an early Danzig, and original handguard.

Cyrus-- that's a nice example and wartime unit marked to boot-- Interesting to see the stock renumbering and that they ignored restamping the buttplate-- I've seen that occur elsewhere, so totally kosher.

Either way, glad Mike passed it along to you. It's a great gun!

I am glad you like it. Letting stuff go can be hard at times but hen you know when it's going to go to a good home and collector. That is always bonus.

Very nice rifle Cyrus!
What is the suffix under the serial? I just can’t make out exactly what it is on any of the 3 locations? A “c”?

Congrats on a nice rifle with interesting depot work! It's nice to see examples like this where you can see the thought process behind the depot work of the rifle and how they went about fixing it up.
