Does anyone know what original Sawtooth bayonets for the Gewehr 98 are going for now? Would like to add a nice one to my collection but don't see many for sale so don't really know a good price range for them.

Thought so wanted to make sure the seller had a fair price and was being reasonable. He had about five for sale including K98a sawback bayonets too.

Craig is right, around $300 for a typical, nothing special sawback, but they can be more expensive than rifles... I have bought and sold them for $500-1500, a 1898-99 Sg98 (with bard) marked to a Garde unit I sold for over $1500, they can really be expensive depending on whether it has a matching scabbard and the unit marking, but there are a lot of variables and the type matters a great deal too. Generally Sg98's are worth more than Sg84/98's or Sg98/05's, but unit markings matter a great deal.

Weren't the sawbacks originally issued to Pioneer units?

Depends what you mean by "originally." In pre-Empire days some of the German states issued sawbacks to Pioniers and some didn't. In the 1871+ period Pionier units generally got a very much higher proportion of sawbacks than other units but sawbacks were not exclusive to Pioniers. It also depends on what kind of sawback you are talking about; some types were specific to units other than Pioniers. You have to have the appropriate unit Waffenetat to figure out who got what and those of course varied over time.
