Gewehr 1943 G98/40

I found a number matching G98/40 at our local Gun shop here in town. They had just put it out for sale when I walked in. The only issue is the sight hood is missing. But it's all matching with a nice clean bore. Stamped all over with WaA173 Manufacturer jhv. Date stamp 43. The stock also stamped with the serial number an jhv, WaA173. All correct parts stamped with 6070 or 70..The sling also looks good. FYI, I have never seen one of these before so I decided to jump on it. Thought I would share some pics. Lots of pics.

Pat it's hard to tell in the last photo but the Weapon looks like it's has a 8x57 Mauser Magazine which would make it a G98/40 correct?

The G98/40 is the upgraded version of the Hungarian 35M, incorporating a turned down bolt, 5 round 8x57 internal magazine, a Mauser-style bayonet lug, and the German-style sling cut. The Hungarians adopted the G98/40 as the 43M, removing the German-style sling cut and replacing the bayonet lug with the Hungarian equivalent. The rifles in the first 2 B&W photos are G98/40s indicated by their Mauser-style bayonet lugs but the rifles in the last picture appear to have Hungarian-style bayonet lugs

That is a really nice rifle OP! Great snag...

The sight hood will be tough, super hard to find, and specific to the 98/40 and 43M...John Wall made some perfect repro's a few years back...luckily I snagged a few from him at the time.

what letter block is the rifle?? I don't see a letter block and being a JHV43 it will be a G-L block. Is it under the wood?
