What would be the approx date of a Gerard B3x scope serial 25,277 pls? It has 1-10 range dial and the range drum locking screw facing towards the front of the scope. Apart from the range dial markings - there are no maker or any markings on the scope at all except the Gew "no 5779 o".
thanks for any help.

Hello,

how did the repro mounts fit?? sorry no date for these I don't have any starting point as it looks like commercial scopes from earlier years were pressed into service. from serial 11438-34313 are all my gew marked scopes so if i had to guess with 34,000 being 1918ish. you scope would be 1915-16?

Hello,
Same observations, but different result.
My guess goes more to late 1916 – early 1917.

In 1914 only a limited number of scopes was produced.
The Bavarian Gerard G4x scopes in the 16xxx – 17xxx range are usually found on 1915 – 1916 dated rifles.
Plus another 5000 scopes for 1916, you are in the 22 - 23xxx range.

But, this is only a guess from personal observations.

Hello, how did the repro mounts fit??

Hi, the guy I bought the bases & mounts from, told me that mine were the originals that his copies were modelled on. It's a good story but who knows? There wasn't a lot of fitting needed as the most of the holes in the bases lined up with the holes already in the Gew 98 receiver. Most of the work went into 'sweating' the bases on to the receiver, which is a labour intensive process. My gunsmith told me that he spent 2 years thinking about the job - and 2 days doing it.
