Gebrüder Merkel Luftwaffe Double Barrel Shotgun

Not only Wehrmacht soldiers.
One of my great-uncles (captain) had his own hunting grund in the Vosges in WWI
For sure, there were more hunters 80 years ago as a percentage of the male population. But I meant that hunters might have been overrepresented in the Wehmacht (this is a speculation that I would like to check one day).

A nice shot that arrived today.
Unfortunately not very clear/sharp.
Waffen-SS, Heer and Luftwaffe soldiers with shotguns.
Likely a prewar competition for ......?
Thanks
Wolfgang

I was reading a Swiss hunting magazine and what we see on the pic may be a « Jagdschiessen », a shooting contest between hunters. A concept that I did not know about and that seems usual in German-speaking countries.

Late to the party I’m afraid but I have both drilling and o/u. I have a picture side by side of the two and I will post my o/u next weekend on Luger Forums. Great information on this thread. I’ll take down my o/u and compare.

If someone would like to post the picture, I will send it to them. All the pictures on my phone seem to be too large to post on this forum.

When you select a picture from your phone, below it it will say “actual size”. Click on that and select the next smaller size. Then give it a go.

Attached is an image from the Cate book on Sauer sporting firearms showing use of O/U shotguns. Sauer and Merkel were probably used together for training or sporting use.

Here’s the side by side. Both drilling and o/u are mint. O/u is 99%, Drilling 95%.
