G98 100 yd POA solutions?

Hello all, so my 1915 G98, I want to shoot at targets 100 yards away. According to my research, only have 2 options since it is an original bring back with the front site staked as it was 109 years ago:

1. Aim low, 6 o'clock hold at 12-18" below target.
2. Temporary/reversable mod up the front sight with ca glue/cut credit card or build up with epoxy putty?

Anything else I am missing?

Anyone aware of a 3d printed item to fit over the front sight to create a higher point to use in the sight picture (similar to #2 above)?

Thanks, CP

Seems like all mausers have the same size front sight dovetail. I solved this problem by getting a Swedish M96 front site in +2.5. I removed the original numbered front site (for re-installation) and installed the Swedish sight. The contour of the Swedish site is different (the top of the sight is flat). I did not take the time to re-shape it to match the original Gew sight profile. I have shot 1000's of rounds through it with no negative effect. I do not know the availability of replacement Swed sights today

I have also successfully used the taller swedish sights.

Israelis also had several front sight heights.

Last poster is correct that almost all Mauser front sight dovetails are the same size.

My solution to shooting very high . . .

Because I’m only interested in shooting tight 10-shot groups, I place a sheet of white paper well above my aiming point!

My POA is about 18” BELOW my POI.

(I hold at 6 o’clock on the blue bull.)

I would go with the epoxy as it will leave the marks alone . Also you can correct for windage a little with crooked epoxy . It can be removed with out leaving a mark .

Try using this sight picture on your Gewehr 98 too. This was from Mauser Bill. Once we started using this technique on our rifles. Me and a buddy at the shooting range. Actually started getting some pretty tight groups on our Gew98s.

Not sure what ammo you use, but you could try shooting Prvi Partizan 8MM ammo. That stuff shoots so low in my rifles that even with the 400 meter setting and 6 o-clock hold my first shot with it in a Gew98 at 100 yards was in the bullseye!
