looks to be a C block.. interesting early milled rail. Cant be an O as it has a threaded barrel and external Ser # on the stock. All this was omitted before then.
There are other Ac44's in the early blocks with milled rails. The rest seem to show up in early 45 on the milled receiver rifles..

thank you for these informations , as previously said this is not area so i have a lot to learn . is the reason known about the milled rail ?

Many of the milled contracted receivers seem to be missing the rail for some odd reason. I believe they were milled off if they did not meet specific accuracy requirements.

the other theory i was discussing with someone was possibly the transition from the early flat rail guns to the later notched rail rifles. The early Ac43 and Bcd rifles had flat rails.. Then they transitioned to notched rails.. Seems easy enough to notch the rail but maybe in their eyes it was easier to just remove it ?? Interesting topic anyways,

These early French made receivers would have come with a flat rail.. As for tracking there are many early block guns noted with milled rails No letter through now the C block on clauses site.

And, I checked my G/K.43 listings with this serial number for the o block. It would be the only milled receiver in a long list of rough forged receivers For an o block. It fits in with the c blocks as it would fit in with a bunch of reported milled receivers with milled off scope rails. Add this with the other evidence presented above.

Looks original. It would be a shame to shoot it and bust something. Better get a shooter’s kit if you shoot it much.

That's a really interesting earlier Walther example and the earliest milled-off rail example I've seen. I have an N block ac44 with the milled off rail and an in-house Walther rough forged receiver, but those earlier features on that C block having a milled off rail make it an all-the-more-interesting variant. I noted the cosmetically machined MAS receiver too and for what it's worth my own and sole Gustloff G43, having a MAS produced receiver as well, will not accept/fit an original ZF4 mount (that will fit any of my other railed G/K43). Studies suggest that ZF4 mounts were never originally fitted to Gustloff G43s and not sure if that has relationship as to why your Walther assembled G43, also with a MAS receiver, has the rail milled off or not but it at least adds an interesting "hmmm".

I have 7729C also milled off rail. There was another C block I had seen at a show about 2 years ago milled off as well. Looks like there was a batch that were in that SN range.

... I believe they were milled off if they did not meet specific accuracy requirements.

That's it exactly. The rifle's accuracy in targeting was not seen as good enough to mate with a Zf-4 scope, so the rail was milled off.

Collectors refer to the G/K-43 and Zf-4 combinations as "sniper" rifles, but that was not the intent. The Zf-4 was meant add a small, cheaply manufactured optical sight, increasing effectiveness and first hit probability. The combo was not envisioned for use in a dedicated sniper role.

I am a G.43 ac44 d block owner. Mine has the scope rail milled off as well and is a “cosmetic receiver”. Just throwing that out there. Super neat to see other ones.

Hello Ber and hello everyone
