G41 (W) - DUV43 - Restoration

Senior Member
I recently received a Gewehr 41, made by BLM in 1943 (Purchased from fellow forum member, Mike - 1Historynut). All metal is matching, but there is no stock, recuperator, bayonet lug, sight hood, front/rear bands nor band spring. I will keep track of the restoration in this thread. Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Status as of now -

Front Sight Hood - repo, not spring steel..may or may not continue to look for original (purchased from Armes Accessoires Surplus / AAS Sniper 98 in France)

Front Barrel Band - unsure if original or not, Im assuming a repo (purchased from Armes Accessoires Surplus / AAS Sniper 98 in France)

Rear Barrel Band - same as above, unsure of originality (purchased from Armes Accessoires Surplus / AAS Sniper 98 in France)

Band Spring - same (purchased from Armes Accessoires Surplus / AAS Sniper 98 in France)

Bayonet Lug - reproduction purchased from Apfeltor

Stock - reproduction purchased and being created by Leszek Foks from http://www.fox-military.com/en/ in Poland. Mr. Foks stated the stock should be ready in 5-7 weeks.

Recuperator - No luck as of yet. I contacted Apfeltor and he said he is no longer creating these parts due to the time necessary to do so. I was able to find a recuperator at Bisgaard & Nielsen (www.bisgaardnielsen.dk/) in Denmark, but due to their laws, they cannot ship anything classified as "gun parts" out of the EU. So, I am SOL there.

Next post will contain pictures.

Try again. I purchased the G41 handguard they had for sale and it made it to California without problem. I bet member shortfal could build a recuperator spring box if he had a template.

About 3 years ago I bought one of Leszik's stocks for a G43. He does very good work, you will like it. He will include your serial number and WaA stamps-214-if you ask him. Also, you may want to ask hlm to apply his stain to the wood, it darkens it up very nice. There are pics of my stock on gunboards.com, posted on 2-19-13, and 6-8-13. In the G43 thread.
Your G41 looks about like my G43 did when I started to bring it back. Good luck with your project!

Claus informed me today that he has received the recuperator from Bisgaard and will be shipping it to me (Thanks again for that!).

I have also received the parts from AAS and will post pictures tonight. As stated above (especially with the sight hood), I am inclined to believe they are reproduction, but the parts do show wear.. IE - they dont look recently produced. Not that that points in one direction or another, just a conversation topic.

Please see my post http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread...on-part-overview&p=92873&viewfull=1#post92873 in regards to AAS parts. They are definitely repros.

Attached is what I have so far. As mentioned previously, the bayonet lug is from Apfeltor, the rest are from AAS.

Interestingly, the bayonet lug is not drilled for a cross pin.

The recuperator has been shipped by Claus and has been sitting in Chicago the past few days but has finally made it through customs. I hope to have it in a few days.

As far as the stock is concerned, Mr. Foks emailed me yesterday and stated that there was a fire in his wood working shop that will cause a delay of, at least, a few weeks. Timetable to restart production is unknown at this point.

Hello,

incase your interested there is a real bayo lug, set of bands, bands spring, & handguard on ebay as we speak. I believe they are real but I did not go into the auction to confirm just incase you wanted to upgrade to real parts if they are real. least worth checking them out.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, I do not have the extra funds to pay the prices the seller is asking. I'll have to stick with the parts I have on hand.

Received the recuperator from Claus today. Pictures coming later.

At this point, pending the fit of the repo parts, all I am missing is the stock.

I've been a little lazy with getting pictures of the recuperator, they will come soon.

I spoke with Mr. Foks this morning, he stated he is still 2-3 weeks away from resuming operations at his shop. With that said, time table for completion of my stock is still unknown.
