G41 (M) Spotted at The Syracuse NY Gun Show this Past Weekend

Saw this rifle being sold by none other than the Gray Blanket at the Syracuse NY gun show this past weekend. I had never seen one in person before (probably never will again). I took a few quick photos but did not go over the rifle thoroughly - too expensive for me to touch!!

So background on the show: it’s the largest in New York State and is held twice a year. I have never found a decent K98k worth buying at one of these shows.

Seeing the man, the myth, the gray blanket in person did take a little bit of the magic away for me!! He attends every show since it’s not far from Copenhagen NY. Other neat stuff he brought was a Finnish Capture SVT-38 WITH original stock and cleaning rod (it was north of $5K) I think there were some mismatched parts but not many. Obv non-refurb. He also had a rare 1913 dated Mosin-Nagant carbine for almost $2K. Someone had sadly deactivated it by welding the bolt face and drilling a hole in the barrel under the handguard 😭

Holy crap! Yeah I would not touch it either for that price! Nice to see one in person though. Thanks for the pic.

Larry occasionally puts out some nice items at the show. Its always worthwhile to check his table when he first sets up.. The man does more travelling and buying than probably anyone and he's found some killer stuff over the years. The price is a little high but prices on tags dont mean much.

I was at the show Saturday morning.
I didn't know that dealer was the grey blanket guy. I have bought some small items from him, but the rifles are always too expensive.
I'll have to take a closer look when I'm there in September.

If my eyes don't deceive me, the gun it's next to is no slouch either.

(Japanese take-down rifle of some kind . . . type 2?)

Simpson got 19k for his a couple of years ago and RIA routinely fetched over 10k for them. If it’s all matching and in very good to fine condition with matching nose cone, someone will pay 17k for it. As I’ve observed over the years….

Someday my kids will have a nice return on mine purchased years ago.

They do not! That is a Type 2. Did not look at it very closely though. Oddly enough I happen to see those quite a bit. I'm sure it was still $$$

Even if I had $17k+ IN CASH on me and wanted to buy it, I wouldn't be able to because being a subject of the Democratic People's Republic of New York, I would need a "semi-auto" license to purchase it legally. OH and the semi-auto licensing has conveniently (sarcasm) been tied to the pistol permitting process which they made even more difficult since SCOTUS turned NY from a "may issue" state to a "shall issue" state.

Gewehr 43s are also assault weapons 😔 (saw a few of those at the show too).

I have known Larry since he got out of the military. I think it’s been 20 year’s ago. I have never met anyone that works as hard and is willingly to help you out with any information or a favor of most anything . He is one of the better people I have met in this business in 45 years of doing it. He asks a fair amount for his items but stop and look what the things he sells on gun broker or eBay bring. He usually gets a good price for what he sells. I don’t personally know anyone that knows him that doesn’t like him. He works hard and tries hard to be a straight shooter. I really like him and consider him as a good guy. My opinion anyway. Larry O’Connor
