G.24(t) Mauser – Original or Questionable?

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I have been reading more about the G.24(t) recently and wanted to get some insight from those of you with deeper experience. I came across one that just closed on GB earlier today and decided to hold off, but I am second-guessing that call a bit.

The rifle had matching serial numbers, a correct "dou. 42" receiver ring, and Waffenamts including the “eagle H” on the stock. The condition looked solid overall. What held me back was that the stock had clearly been revarnished, and the description noted that the butt had been cut and the buttplate refitted.

From what I could tell, the metal finish and markings looked original and not forced. But I know that with rifles from this period, small details can make a big difference in terms of authenticity and collector value.

Was I right to pass on this one, or did I overthink it? I would really appreciate your thoughts on how much weight that kind of stock modification carries when considering originality and long-term value.

Here is the listing for reference:

Looking forward to learning from the community and contributing where I can. Thanks for your help!

It is very late for a G24t and trends suggest they are damn difficult to find w/o problems...especially this late,, dou/42 is only known to the early 3000 k-block and most have at least a few issues (not rare but most have one problem or another)

Problem free the rifle was worth what it sold for, but the seller is one of the better sellers imo, - pretty honest, but in this case you are better off "missing out"; though I am not an dou enthusiast, some might think it a go, but I wouldbe glad missing out.

Relieved to hear you say that. I had a feeling it might’ve been too good to be true, and it looks like that might’ve been the case. Next to impossible to find a proper one these days. Really appreciate your help!

I'm going to say you should have pulled the trigger if you really want a G.24t. The metal and blue on that is almost perfect. the only issue with it is the glazed doughnut stock, which you could re-stain to a better look.
These are hard to find with matching bolts.
$1300 is just over Mitchel mouser and RC pricing.
I have two matching ones and will be some of the last guns I get rid of.

Yeah, the matching bolt was definitely what had me leaning in. It is not something you come across often, and like you mentioned, I could have just restained the stock. I probably overthought that part more than I should have. I guess time will tell, but considering how long it has been since I saw a fully matching rifle come up, it will probably be a while before another one shows up...
