Frog real?

One of my dopey shooting buddies gave me this frog last Saturday 'cause he knows I'm into German stuff. If it's real I'll keep it otherwise it's going into the circular file. The only thing I can make out is "1942" in the inner circle on the back. Upside down

Probably a LW frog design, when 1942 so the black paint was cleaned , used off or is not good visible .b.r.Andy

The frog marking and maker is GUSTAV SUDBRACK > 1942 > Bielefeld. And it is original in every way.

Is this fake or real?

Your frog is somewhat unusual and deviates from the norm. Most notably are the alloy rivets used. In addition, the "V" shape of the frog stud hole is seldom seen. I have never encountered this maker/variant. However, Anthony Carter reports the manufacturer as "C POSE Wehrausrrustungen - Berlin O34, Boxhagenerstr. 16 (code "cny")". The example reported was dated 1940 and has a Carter pattern number of 310 (very common). Looking at the stitch which appears slightly worn, construction and marking, I think it is likely OK. If a repro, someone looked hard to find a very obscure manufacturer to emulate...

As mentioned the shape of hole for scabbard hook is strange, i would tend to repair when the backleather is correct with the maker, should be smelled its new or not, it could be the rivets are too replacements, normally there was a Wehrausruestung under C.Pose by marking. The piece should be inspected for details, stiching UV light test, same as thickness of front pouch leather. I dont believe the front pouch here is period, mostly replaced with recuted the hole for scabbard hook. In case the maker is origin.

I do not feel the frog is original for several reasons. Construction of the pouch and frog hanging hook hole is not what is expected from period original examples. Incorrect rivet material. Exterior and interior leather finish and appearance is consistent with known reproductions. The marking for Pose is nothing that I have recorded for 1937. Frog examples for this year are properly stamped C. Pose-Leder. > G.m.b.H. > Berlin > 1937 or C. Pose Wehrauser. > Berlin O34 > 1937. The three line stamp with Wehrausrüstungen mentioned by pwcosol and AndyB was used by 1939 and after. Would not be for my collection. My thoughts only ......

The take-away here is repros (of just about everything) continue to evolve and in the main, are more realistic than what was seen in the 1980s-1990s...

Problem is that the piece was patinated evidently as it looks different as on Bert F.link, the leather was patinated, anyway the crisp maker stamp is allways suspicious.

Yes they are patinated, holding in various solution like old tea, brings darker color to leather and stitch like old looking, its from same source certainly, the hammering of Alu rivets are identical.

While off topic, I came across a scarce 1940 P38 holster ( embellished with veteran art) from this maker C. Pose, also 1940 dated. Most likely from a zero series pistol.
Photos added for comparison. I was able to trace the veterans information (LF Carpenter, NY) through ancestry.com
