For researchers : NARA rolls and more...

Hi everyone,

I assume that some of you know that the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) holds microfilms of seized archives of the various branches of the Wehrmacht and some ministries.

Everything is explained here :

If I'm not mistaken, almost all the original documents have been returned to Germany where the Bundesarchiv holds them.

I've recently discovered that a gentleman (J Carl Calvin, if it's a real name) makes available most of those documents easily and for free on an FTP site:

There are so many things that if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, you will get lost.

Is anyone else having a devil of a time connecting to this? I'm using Filezilla and I can connect to his server, I can see the files, but the second I try to transfer something I get timeouts and disconnects.

I tried Filezilla first, but found out that WinSCP is more stable and user-friendly.
Enjoy ! and beware, this rabbit hole is endless 🤓

Yeah, that did it. Weird, I haven't had that issue with FileZilla before. Whatever, I'm pretty agnostic when it comes to programs. Thanks for the tip

I hate NARA.

Ok, well now that I have said how I really feel. I am glad this gentleman has taken the time to provide to the public what our own government is to incompetent to accomplish.

(I have been trying to get a copy of several microfilm rolls from NARA who insist that the microfilm rolls I spent a week working off of do not exist. It's been going on nearly 10 years now)

I assume he worked there, felt like you and dumped everything on his site.

Still exploring.
