First K98k - dou 44

Greetings!

After debating picking up a Kar98K for some time I impulse bought in addition to an M1 for my growing WW2 collection. I'd like to identify any issues or concerns now that I've had a chance to disassemble. For the most part the SN matches with 9235 but there are some interesting marks at the base plate which indicates byf and the stock does not have any serial numbers even upon removing the butt plate . I'm happy with the condition of the rifle and plan to put some rounds down range but wanted to learn a bit more from some knowledgeable folks in case I missed anything in my initial investigation. Let me know if more pictures are needed but I went through what I thought would be needed.

Thanks

The metal looks good. Can you show photos of the stock barrel channel and hand guard channel. I myself think Dou,s are under estamated to .

byf is a subcontracted trigger guard with one e/135 which is correct. Most are qnw that show up on dou's but byf made large quantities of parts for other firms. The stock was definitely shellacked as you can see traces off it on the lower band.. You need to fully disassemble the rifle to see the ser #'s also stock may have a subcontract code in the channel as well.

My first was a dou 44 as well. I agree the stock looks possibly sanded. A dou 44 should have no external stock markings (regardless of sanding of course lol).

I’d like to see close ups of top of the bolt root as well as the back of the root, where the firing proof will be. The one of the underside is good & clear, like that. thanks!

Thanks for the replies! Good information. When I get back tonight I'll remove the stock from the assembly and will post pictures of the inside of the channel as well as more clear pictures of the bolt root (assume that's the area where the bolt charging handle meets the bolt assembly?

UPDATE! Took the dou apart and got a decent cleaning done while I was at it. Attached are the pictures of the markings under the barrel, at the base of the charging handle and of the stock and upper wooden barrel cowling.

Let me know if others are needed!

nice pix of firing proof & clearer pic of bolt underside, would still like to see one of the upper side of the root, where the serial number & block letter are marked…..

Dou 44 stocks were not externally marked. Just the numbers inside. The wood seems to me to have been sanded very lightly in the past.

Is this what you're looking for?

Also a dou fan and have found that really nice guns can be had reasonably so don’t mind the underappreciation. I think it’s because they aren’t as marked up and tend to be very consistent. A little bland to some eyes.

I just picked up a U block DOU44. Everything looks very similar to yours. Nice rifle. How is the bore? Does it have the sight hood intact?
