Erfurt 1917 KAR98a with some provenance

Hi there,
Looking at this Kar98a which has some provenance. It has a plaque on it by whom brought it back from the trenches. The previous owner was a relative of the name on the Plaque (So they say). It has been duffle cut (assuming to bring back). The forend looks like a replacement.
Price is okay, and the bore is "good" with some wear. Stock toe a little beaten up.

Matching numbers.

What do you think ?

Actually, the wood might be elm (or beech), that’s why it has this weird look.
Sure, but explain why the acceptance is obviously silhouettes like common sanding jobs, the stock is not marked as being beech and the plate has sanding abrasions on it, not to mention it doesn’t appear to have any type of finish on the stock based on these photos.

Never mind, it might actually be Beech, but still it’s sanded..
