Weimar Era scope but i have seen it on 98k mostly some hunting pre war rifles but... Is there anyone who saw it on standard mount system such as low or high turrest or short side rail. Scope has 27mm tube same as VOIGTLANDER EBRA, are these scopes are possible with not standard 26.5mm on these mounts, is it possible to drill LT or HT to fit 27mm those days (any references?). I building replica for my friend and got this scope without mounts(looking for mounts) and wish to make as corret as possible.I saw some repros for example double claws which should be the best for this kit but they are ugly:facepalm:. BTW i have additional guestion. What is the mount system in this rifle. I don't recognise this rail http://www.gunauction.com/buy/6336018/mauser-98k-1925-weimar-sniper-rifle

Spielauer has a Gerard scope on LT in his book.

The linked rifle is expensive sporterized stuff, nothing more. Mount is civilean.

re the still unanswered part of your enquiry: if the 26.5mm rings are the 'split version' first try if the 27mm scope tube will fit - i.e. if the rings can be 'stretched' to close over the tube - its only a 0.5mm difference after all, and even then the machining of the rings may be slightly off variance to permit fitting as they are - if they won't stretch or if they are 'closed rings' you can either machine or hone the rings that extra half mm open that you need - if you don't have the know-how any competent machinist could do it

hint- first make 100% sure your 27mm scope tube is exactly 27mm as I have one that is supposed to be 27mm but is slightly over size - never just rely on specs or markings etc - lol

Scope has 27mm. Do You think it will be possible set up with drilled closed LT to 27mm to fit this scope? LT with split rings from what i know is modern idea.Easier for sure but Im looking for possible WWII setup.

do not know what the repro rings are like as to scope tube diameter.
I have found that many original low turret rings were made to fit 27mm scope tubes.the low turret mount was originally designed to fit the Argentine M1909 sniper assembled in the late 1920s.the german low turret mount was made to the same drawings so the earlier rings could have been to just fit the 26.5mm tube of the Zielvier scope.when other scopes like the Kahles H/4x60 and Gerard B3x scopes with 27mm tubes started to be fitted the tube diameter dimension would have changed.
I have found that at least some original 27mm rings were used with 26.5mm scope tubes.the edges of the 27mm rings were peaned slightly to reduce the diameter to have a tighter fit to the 26.5mm scope tube.the larger diameter at the center of the rings was filled with solder when the rings were soldered to the scope tube.

the Gerard commercial scopes not used with the turret mount.the distance from the front of the focus ring to the back of the eyepiece was to much.it placed the scope to far back on the rifle.the Kahles H/4x60 was used since the focus plate could be used in front of the rear ring.other scopes with focus rings that were used with the turret mount had short distances from the front of the focus ring to the back of the eyepiece so the back of the eyepiece was located no farther back than that used with the Zeiss Zielvier scope.
the Gerard B3x scopes seen with the low turret mount are recycled WW1 sniper scopes that do not have focus rings.there is a focus pad just behind the elevation housing on the WW1 sniper scopes.there were also some Gerard C 4 1/2x and Gerard M4x scopes made this way that would have been available in the german army depot.

Thanks for both re C.P Goerz. I know what you mean but i don't have many options, Other thing is original claw mounts will possition scope exactly the same like on LT.I put some picture where is some fake(i think) with LSR and Gerard K also my photoshop try to see how Gerard could looks like on LT( left pic scope moved back, right max into the front) and i see it's still far back but i saw some 98K with scope moved more back( some sporters) or Gew98. Part of picture show original claw mount for Gerard K but i don't have it and gunsmitching is impossible because of $.d1.22380633_largeiii.jpg

if your question is can a nominal 26.5mm dia. ring be machined out to take a 27mm scope tube ? the answer lies in how thick the metal is - its unlikley that the metal is already so thin in the rings to prevent them being opened up

the 26.5mm advt size on repros seems to be an intentional manufacturing compromise that forces buyers to do a final fit in most cases - you then take responsibility and no return or refund!

I note CPG has provided you additional info

Hello,

no problem i have opened up 26.5mm rings to 27mm several times theres enough metal if done properly. I would save this K Gerard for a nice reichwehr setup and buy some of the other many commercial scopes that would look more proper unless you just love this scope then it doesn't matter : )

if you have to use the Gerard K with a turret mount put the rear ring all the way back to be just shy of the focus ring or could shift focus ring all the way forward and have rear ring back edge at the front of the focus ring.let the scope stick out in front of the front ring.when the Zeiss 6x scope was used with the turret mount it stuck out.back of the Zeiss 6x was at same location as Zeiss 4x scope.
I have also bored out turret mount rings.mounted it 3 jaw lath chuck using arbor 1.044"diameter with .500" shank.put arbor in drill chuck and ring on arbor to position in lathe chuck.
