DOW LSR Complete Scope & Mount Set

I was referring to the serial on the mount and not the scope. Now I understand the confusion. Please check the serial on the MOUNT and not of the scope! Sorry, I did not mention to what I was referring.

I see what your saying.. Id have to say its from holding each stamp at an angle VS straight. easy to do on a single digit die stamp. Also the V is double struck from hammer bounce.

I concur... all three numbers are 3mm and the difference is just how deeply each was struck. You can see that the 8 was more lightly struck especially the bottom half. You can almost see a progression of depth from the lighter 8 to the slightly deeper 3 to the really deep 5. Definitely some stamp bounce as Mauser99 pointed out. To me everything looks legit.

blowing it up even more in that photo you can see the 8 was bounced as well. Its ashame this rail and scope were removed from the rifles./.... So often the fate of these back in the day.

I use to number forged connecting rods. So in the first attempt you are testing the hardness of the metal judging how hard to strike.. Make perfect sense to someone who knows.

Interesting Mount it has the 2 piece type Locking Lever . So far I have only seen these on Machined Ring Mounts in the U & V suffix or the UnNumberd example that was posted here a while back .

So out of the blue I got contacted by a fellow board member who saw this post and had a project Sauer LSR rifle and was generous enough to sell it to me. The good is that it is all matching and in fantastic condition. The bad is that the matching numbered stock was totally sporterized and looks to be beyond saving. It also came with a spare original LSR base including the screws and pins (although they don't index properly since they weren't originally for this rifle). While it would have been great to find a V block to go with my scope set I am super thrilled to be able to get this.

Now to try to track down a really nice Sauer stock to use to put this all together.

Here are some pics...
