Double claw mount variation

Greetings everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has ever seen (or heard of...) a K98 double claw mount rifle variation with the forward base attached to the barrel (right in front of the receiver) instead? I know that most were attached to the top center of the receiver (often covering the manufacturer code) according to the Richard Law books..... I am guessing that this is not an original WW2 sniper installation but it sure does look like it even with "death head" on the pistol grip along with a (somewhat) defaced "death head" on the barrel....? I will have to get some pictures taken if anyone thinks this might possibly be original....?!?

Your description says a big NO, but I'd nevertheless be keen to see it, since it might had been an original SS DH rifle someone ruined by converting it to a "sniper rifle".

The only legit variants where the scope base is sitting on the barrel (as well as on the receiver) is a field modification in which Soviet top mounted PE sniper rifles were used. So far no originals of those are documented, but there once were made reproducion bases which fit to the barrel shank and receiver contour.

The mounting to the barrel most likely is a result of an oversize scope. The Suhler Claw Mount usually requires the front base to be located at the objective of a scope. If it is a larger scope the front base therefore moves very to the front.

I really appreciate the information 'Absolut'. This rifle belongs to a friend, but I will have to take some pictures of it so you can view in the future....
Many thanks for your support, Kevin

Greetings again gentlemen (especially "Absolut"), I took some pictures today but this site states "the uploaded files are to large for the server to process"? My camera is a digital one and I dont know how to lessen them? I can probably send them to an email address and I rest assure I am a honest person....
Hope to hear from Ya and happy Tuesday :)
Respectfully, Kevin

Try emailing them to yourself. That should resize them

Now I dont know how to attach my email here? Lol But I just tried to send it to a hotmail address listed.......

If you have an iPhone and are choosing pictures to post from your picture library, when you go to choose the photo, below it will say actual size. Click on that and you can choose the next smallest size. See if that will go.
There were double claw Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles with the front claw base mounted on the barrelIMG_5086.jpg

Sorry, I do not have a so called 'smart phone'... Sure would be easier to send to an email address..... Perhaps this sites email address will work? BTW, thanks for the photograph of another rifle with forward base mounted on the barrel.....

Well, I found a site that helps me reduce the size but it appears I can only send one picture at a time....

This one again trying for a better view of the somewhat 'scrubbed' "DH"..... If anyone is still interested, I can try to take more explicit photos......?

You get an A for effort in getting those photos up, however it looks like that front base is tack welded to the barrel shank and the base is pretty crudely cobbled. Post war fantasy piece in my humble opinion.

Thanks for message and giving me the A for effort! :) Your probably right about being a "fantasy piece". Wouldn't this be soldiered though (I didnt know a weld could be performed between two metals invisibly)? I understand how some of the weld is visible at the front base but you cant see any on the rear base.....? Anyhow, he says its a great shooter with good eye relief/position and you can even use the iron sights through the holes in the rings.....
