dou. 44, 4916 C, Matching

This is a recent addition and my third dou. It came from an auction and thankfully it was a valuable member of this forum. It was covered in cosmoline and with an appropriate cleaning, it came out nicely. Only liability is a clean duffle cut, but it is held firmly in place.

WOW what a contrast to my b block rifle! My stock has a P? Something and a "X" in the barrel channel. Wonder what that means.

The next (and only) dou.44 that is properly broken down in the pic reference is a t block, making this a good candidate for a pic sticky for earlier in the year.

I don't think the pic sticky has been updated in several years... There was a discussion about this recently that I think shut down the possibility of continuing to maintain it. I know it is a lot of work. Over in the Imperial section Cyrus is the one who watches all the threads and updates the sticky. I can see how it could be tedious.

The discussion revolved around replacing all the old bad photos with newer examples, in addition to sticky-ing every matching rifle. The consensus seemed to be that this would be time consuming and not the main goal of the reference thread, which is instead to provide a general idea instead of cataloging every example.

I stand corrected. It is definitely not a light task, and I don't blame the mods for not investing the time when there are more important tasks out there. It would have to be a trustworthy person's cross to bear. The Imperial section has a different approach: well photographed matching rifles are all catalogued, and new threads on previously posted rifles do replace the old ones. Since I'm generally over there, that is what I am used to. Mind you, other than Rifle & Carbine by Dieter Storz, there is no comprehensive encyclopedia on Imperial arms like K98ks...

Generally speaking I tend to only share rifles on this section if I have questions or concerns. Representative examples eventually get lost as time moves on and new threads are posted. Yes, I know the search function exists, but I don't do general searches. If I'm doing an advanced search, I'm usually searching by an OP. RavenOps has many many detailed posts, so he is a good person to search by threads so long as members know about his posts.

One of the biggest issues is the limit to searching 3 letters, which conveniently messes with searching by code, ugafx posted a workaround to this that is quite useful. This discussion can be continued here as not to clog up this rifle thread:

This may come off the wrong way, but why isn't every matching rifle that is posted added to the picture reference? I think the biggest argument against it will be that it will clutter the reference section, but frankly the way it is itemized is as efficient as you can get. Simply using ctrl+F...
