Just got this sporter which is in great condition (and price) to be saved, no import mark, Great bore and only the wood was modified.
53496 no letter block, Closest ive found on here is this one: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/dot-1944-late-rough-stock.43468/
The bolt and the follower have a large 42 those are the only numbers besides the serial number on barrel.
Looking to see if it seems all original parts.
Sorry I forget to take new photos after the bolt was clean it was a gunked up mess

I have a few questions:
  1. Is the bolt original possible or from another rifle? The only number on it is under the bold handle "42" and all the waffenamts seem to be 655 from what I can tell. On back side of the bolt there is large eagle. Also the Follower has a "42"
  2. For looking for a replacement stock from what ive seen on here it would be a no serial rough laminate stock with no serial hardware like the on in the link above. Its a later serial than that one just want to make sure keeping an eye out for the right thing or at least something close im sure it will be hard to find.
  3. Do the firing proof eagles seem to be missing the swastika like they were pinned out or are they just faded or punched to lightly.

The bolt assembly is worth more than the rifle - by nearly 2 to 3 times.
Its an armorers spare bolt from Mauser Oberndorf.

Sell the bolt and get a good stock and correct late war Brunn I bolt.

The rifle is right in the crossover period between Kriegsmodell config and simplified standard stock.

Interesting! only paid $225. How much do you think the bolt is worth?
Does the 42 mean anything? why do you think the follower also is 42 marked? thanks!

The 42 on the bolt is the “number code” for mauser oberndorf. It indicates it was made at maussr oberndorf. The 42 on the follower is just coincidence and part of the old serial number from a Gewehr.98 rifle.

The bolt group is very nice indeed, (as is the whole rifle!). I would keep the bolt, as it is, at least, not NOT matching.

These Armorers Bolts general fetch between $500 to $800 depending on the Code/Makers mark and Condition .
wow awesome. thanks. Attached some more bolt photos for anyone who wants to see. Its in really nice shape.
