DH Luger Pistols: Science vs. Academia

I saw that video some time ago and just giggled watching it. The same is true for many many topics.

A friend and I recently had a conversation about the automotive industry and how there have been no advances in the last... 80 years? 100 years?

Improvements.... yes, depending on how you look at some of them.

He worked on development of a recent project for one of the big 3, which is in production now. The motor they used was a 60 year old chrysler designed engine. Updated, modified, "improved".

We still have ICE and hydraulic brakes. Electric cars are just starting to make a come back after nearly 100 years. One of the e-axle developments is a stamped banjo axle developed by GM I think it was for WWII.

When I did my bachelors degree everything revolved around JSTOR and that was 20 years ago!

This generally fits very well with the SS topic. Another very good example is Steyr and the so called "SS contract".

Since 2017 I have been writing that some things need to be reviewed because they are certainly not correct. Unfortunately without success Starting in 2019 I have sent out several drafts and referenced original documents that not only support my concerns, but even confirm them. Unfortunately without success. The more original documents I found, the more inconsistencies I discovered. It is disappointing that there seems to be little interest. If there is a serious interest in telling a correct historical story, then such different opinions needs to be reviewed.

It is no coincidence that so many of these K98ks survived the war and what's more, many of these rifles in America are in above-average condition, they look almost unused. I assume some collectors will be disappointed when they find out why these "SS contract" rifles were built and which branch got many of these weapons.

A friend of mine once said something similar about ships. The steel hull, the screw propellor and an engine. It’s been a long time since we pieced that together, and all we’ve done since is tweak the edges.

Interested. Where can we find your research?

It can be summed up by saying that the more about a subject someone knows or think that they know the less willing they tend to be to consider new information. This is especially true when the new information contradicts what they think they know.

The people who know the most about a subject and have published credible works in the field are generally regarded as experts. The experts are the often the most obstinate to consider new contradictory information.

"Expert" does not mean omniscient. Only a fool thinks they know everything about a subject and there are too many "experts" in the P38 community. Now, I'm pretty knowledgeable about a number of subjects. BUT, I'm smart enough to know that the more I know, the more I know how little I know. "Experts" will never admit that because the thing they are most "expert " at is being a fool. Books about the past are fine to a point but they are never complete.

That is simply because they have the most to loose too. Why would they follow every single thought? It had taken them a long time to get to their stage. And they also have a lot of experience they underwent to get to their status. So it is quite risky for them to be the first ones to shout out new thoughts.
I'm anyway waiting for @RyanE to publish a book on them because that would finally set a standard :D

The internet forum actually has contributed greatly to the intellectual pathology of the "sole source expert", aka, "it is because I say so". Then, the forum attack monkeys all line up to shout down and shut down the alternative opinions and information of the minority. The purpose of this site was to break free of that.
