Cupped buttplate on flat stock?

Hope I’m posting this in the right area.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to install a cupped buttplate on a flat buttplate stock?

Im considering a Minnelli repro project for my byf 43. Im not sure if after removing the necessary wood to fit the cupped plate the screw holes would line up correctly.

I’ve seen original flat buttplate stocks wartime converted to cupped, so yes - it’s possible.

You would need to inlet the wood around the edge to allow seating a cupped buttplate.

If you have access to a cupped stock, take some measurements

Once you get the stock inlet to correctly seat a cupped buttplate, I am guessing the screw holes will align. But if they don’t, very easy fix. Plug the original screw holes with snug fitting wooden dowel rods coated in wood glue. Let it set up overnight. Put the buttplate on, mark the proper location for the screws with a center punch, remove buttplate , drill new pilot holes, done.

New pilot holes for the buttplate holes, if needed, will be a piece of cake compared to properly relieving the stock for the cupped buttplate.

I also am thinlking of doing a minellis stock project with cuped buttplate. Here is a CE42 that the hive thinks was originally an early flat stock modified to a cupped buttplate at factory or depot level.

I have a CE41 in a pretty beat up stock, and this was one of my thoughts for it.
