Looks like the metal is in great shape to me! Was the stock refinished or something? It certainly doesn't look to be in lesser condition to me. Probably my favorite barrel band combo, welded rear band and solid milled front band.
The stock is still in its original condition. Just has some dings/scratches near the buttplate along with some finish wear on the metal, especially the front band and floorplate.
What really interesting to me are the imperfections under the wood.

Thanks Hambone! I don't know about you all, but for awhile I had issues getting photos you could actually select and open with zoom option on them, along with keeping them oriented properly. From my phone, I took the photos then cropped and rotated as needed. loading these directly from the phone will revert to the original crop and orientation. However, I went to my icloud, which is a computer-accessible storage for your phone data. I downloaded the files as jpegs after the crops and rotations were updated, which resulted in new files that keep their format and have a zoom function.

Beautiful gun. Just got my first matching JP Sauer recently too. It is a 43 production. What is the marking on the magazine follower?

"lxr" a common 3 letter code for later subcontracted followers. Do not recall the maker name.

Was reading the ERMA/FEIMA section of the K98k books for a project and realized that with the Gothic script and e/280 WaA, that this receiver had its start at ERMA/FEIMA prior to making its way to JP Sauer, which I thought was pretty neat. Its remarkable how much I forget and relearn by visiting the books again.

Very nice and a lovely example of a late war rifle. I hope to get a BYF, CE and AR 44 dated examples. Already have DOU, DOT and BNZ although the BNZ has some questionable features. Fairly positive the action, bolt and bottom metal are legitimate tho. Stock, handguard and barrel bands are the issue.
