CE 43 question

Hey Guys I'm pretty new here and trying to pick up as much knowledge as I can so I was wondering if I could have your opinion on a couple markings on this K98 that I'm looking at buying. The gun itself looks okay but can anyone comment on what the "starburst" looking stamp is on the barrel? Is that a VOPO stamp or some other post war stamp? Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

The "starburst" or "asterisk" is a inspector reject mark. Certainly the barrel failed the inspection and after the flaw was corrected, it got accepted.

Which acceptance is on the right side of the receiver ring and which letter style has the "Mod. 98" marking on the receiver bridge?

Greetings,
Stephan

Hey thanks for the quick reply guys.

Unfortunately those are the only pics that I have of this area and more unfortunate for me is that the gun has been sold.

I'll keep looking and learning for now. Just curious though, are there any VOPO K98s or were they mostly G/K43s?

This was once DK's rifle, Keith didn't show the RR well enough, but it is a Walther receiver. It was a nice rifle, for Stephan here are a few more angles, as i know he trends also..

Hmm so does that asterisks detract from the collector value? I would think not and personally wouldn't care as long as it was stamped pre May 45.

Loewe, thank you very much for the photos. In general a big thank you, because you are always helpful and you share your expert knowledge.

@lintmann
I can tell you only about Germany, here the asterisks doesn't detract from the collector value and I could imagine it's the same in America.

No one I know of cares about a German rejection asterisk. Typically the defect was repaired before usage anyways.

I own a few items with the mark, As you know, the market in Canada is odd, but I can tell you you need to move fast as we have previously discussed.

I agree. The mark is interesting but not a detractor IMO.
