BYF Turret barreled action , questions.

Hopefully this is ok to post. I'm hoping you fine gentleman can tell me whether it looks legitimate or not.
Barreled action came into the shop as is. Claimed to be a BYF sniper but seems to be lacking markings that would verify. Front left of receiver has faint proof. Front turret is both screwed and soldered to receiver as it should be. Barrel, bolt, saftey, bolt sleeve, cocking piece, rear sight base, slide, slide bar, guide, and floor plate are all marked with serial #1510. Bore is very good."

I'd dearly love to get into a real turret mounted at a reasonable sum. If this is the real thing, do you guys have any inkling what fair market would be? Or would this be the type of thing that would be basically impossible to complete (would reproduction scope and rings be totally incompatible?)

Thanks for your time.

Sorry, we've got rules here and they are posted and you need to be familiar with them before posting. NO ongoing auction links or reference. Otherwise two things happen: 1) Our site becomes a free advertising venue for people pimping their auctions. If you want to exploit our site to sell something, put it in the Trader, but our members won't be pimped to bid. 2) People will come here to exploit the information of our forum to bid against our members who have spent years and money and time learning and building relationships. There is a benefit to learning, buying books, and making friendships and that is knowledge. We don't encourage drive bys seeking instant expertise to bid. Many times these people (we know who they are) are simply looking to wade in and flip things for a profit anyway.

So, if you aren't shilling and pimping an auction and want to learn, then it is no problem posting pics after the auction is over. I'm not saying any of the above applies to you, but it does to others.
Thanks,
HB

Hambone has made some good points, as usual. Send some pictures to informed members via PM or email.

Sorry! I figured it was ok to just post the pictures as long as the link to the auction wasn't included, but the pics weren't very good either. I suppose I'll see what it sells for and take that as my answer re: market pricing. Sorry again if I violated the rules.

No worries. Just post up pics, no sale reference no GB reference on the pics. Or, ask someone privately.
Cheers,
HB

Cut off the bottom of the pictures which also list the sellers name and don't tell everyone MODEDIT . That anyway otherwise will only draw others attention to this item and would make it more expensive for you (if it's original).

I am pretty sure anyone who is even remotely interested and knows what it is or is not has already seen it regardless of what you do to the pictures. I like the forum rules the way they are and do not see the grey area concerning posting the photos of any ongoing auction here either. Just my opinion.

Not sure what I did wrong here. I did not post any pictures or links here. My apologies. I truly meant I agree with the rules. So what did you edit?

Hambone,

I am not sure what you are talking about. My apologies, but I do not know what I did or said. I said I agree with the rules. Please send me a private mail and tell me what I did or said wrong. I think this is a misunderstanding.

Sorry for not being clear Herc. This wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular, it was a general statement. I mean people posting up auction items for discussion and claiming they didn't understand the rules. It's like defending against a speeding ticket by claiming ignorance of the speed limit. The signs are there.

Looks like Hercules was the winning bidder. It went for about what I predicted, I guessed $3000, if it was a Sauer. I though I was seeing a couple 37s in the pictures. I wonder if there ever was a serial number on the receiver? Hopefully it is a good find?

Yes, that was me. I think it is a good legitimate Sauer High Turret. I do not believe there is suppose to be serial on receiver. It is missing the stock, bands, band spring, cleaning rod, and scope. Thanks for any opinions.

Would love to see more pics of it. I was in the bidding for a while......glad you got it!

Nice purchase. Its similar in several areas to the Sauer HT that I have. Mine is an 'M' block with an Erma receiver, yours an 'N' block with what I imagine is a Walther receiver (non-script 'Mod.98' on the siderail). The e/37 acceptance stamp on the receiver's left side is just like mine, at the very front edge, with no serial # on the receiver. I can't see a firing proof close to the receiver's e/37, it may be lightly stamped.

Hello, yes I have a close up pic and the Eagle 37 is next to the firing proof. Also, the front mount screws were part way out. The seller thought the front mount would come off. As he discovered it would not. He said the screws go back flush with the holes unlike the auction photo of the front mount.
