Byf 44 machine gun barrel?

Hi everyone,

I've located a Byf 44 with apparently matching serial numbers (7398b). It's advertised as a kriegsmodell however the serial appears to be early 1944 production.

Are any of you aware if oberndorf produced mg15 barreled k98ks in 1944?

And could anyone direct me to a photo of an mg barreled k98k so I can compare?

I'm having a look this weekend and will post detailed photos shortly.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

MG barrels are very easy to identify by the cuts on the muzzle for the MG15 booster, and the extra 'step' of the adapter. Gustloff was the only manufacturer to use surplus MG barrels, so if a byf receiver has a legit MG barrel attached it is almost certainly been replaced post-war.

I agree, while anything is possible, it certainly is unlikely.

Would be good to see if this rifle is original, - if you (Matt) can image the rifle in detail, it should be a small matter to determine this. Be sure to image or record all receiver markings, especially any acceptance marks on the barrel, receiver and stock.

Never say never , but I've cannot recall hearing of any recycled receviers with MG barrels...

Just say'n if you find a byf44 with MG barrel, that would be my first thought.

Not a re-barrel... that seems most unlikely...

That looks like a standard barrel to me, but those pictures aren't very big either. He sure values his stuff pretty highly. $330 for a dress bayonet and $375 Mosin-Nagant rifles??

hope

Had my hopes up for maybe a new discovery.....I don't think Beaver Cleaver knows his stuff.....
