please forgive me if this is obvious, but what then would be obstacles to mounting the scope using a ‘mixed bases’ configuration?

Xavier if You also notice the Front Base profile on the corners are also another tell tale trait that this is an early HT . This can also be found on late BYF43 rifles that were turned into HT. Here is a pic of later HT base for comparison again notice corner cuts . The Front Base on Your HT has corner cuts that are reminiscent of LT Front Base . Also put a pic of a BLC HT Scope with early Front Base and a LT Rear BaseDSC_1054.JPGDSC_1056.JPGDSC_1066.JPGDSC_1076.JPGDSC_0948.JPG

thank you, sir ! What is the function of the center screw?
That center screw hold a small piece of spring steal spacer on the Base . I have never understood or been able to figure out what its exact purpose is for but all LT & HT rear bases have this ..

Xavier , I just noticed something very interesting about the Front Base which I have seen before but not all the early HT Bases have this . Its has the Stop Block but unlike the LT stop block being held in place with a screw this stop block is made by stopping the cutout that the retainer spring tab from the upper part of the mount goes into . I posted a pic of one I had along with Your front base .

Is the Rifle ALL MATCHING Example ??????? IMO even if its not its a great example .

Yes All matching Dave. Unfortunately, no bolt…

Dave, we discussed early HT bases roughly a year ago here: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/high-turret-block-c.43945/

Back then we also spoke on the early HT bases which were not milled all the way through to resemble a "stopping plate".
Yes Georg , I recall that discussion . I am only pointing out that I noticed Xaviers front base is one of these early bases which is likely not noticed by some reading this thread and some may not be aware that there are difference in the HT bases . Its also possible that many new members have no idea that these were discussed or even know that there are minor differences between early and late front HT bases .

Hi, Sorry if this has been asked before...

what does the asterisk beside the 135 Wa on the rear base of a turret sniper signify please?

thank you.
