Hi just wondering what the serial number 127 kk is on a k98k im looking at. Everything is matching, bolt and all. Its missing the rear adjustable sight and has 2 small holes drilled in 1 side for a “peep sight” is what i was told. Any info helps also as far as value or how much the 2 holes drilled in it lowers the value. Its on a sporterized stock that is cut right behind the trigger. So id probably swap that.

Thanks in advance🙏

Hard to say anything about anything with this one single photo

127 is the serial number. kk is the “block” or batch in production.

Here are the only other pictures i was able to get. 5C4A00FA-0EA1-4CFF-A700-FA2763E53FCA.jpeg

Being drilled and tapped for a peep absolutely murders the value. The stock is a numbered part, as are all the bits of the rear sight assembly, so even setting aside that it will never be a numbers matching gun.

It would probably make a decent restoration for a reenactor or as a shooter. Maybe also a decent candidate for building into a repro sniper if that's a direction you were interested in going.

Yes, its value is almost completely gone from what it was when in original condition. These can be difficult to market because of the cost involved with bringing it back to military spec. It can be done, but parts are spendy and the gun will never match again anyways. Value would have to be appropriate, maybe $200-300 as is. If the barrel has been modified in any way aside from the rear sight removal I’d say maybe $150-200.

Just for some idea, an appropriate stock and hand guard for this would cost at least $200, condition will vary. Then all the hardware etc. adds up quick. It’s a labor of love. If you don’t love it then you may be better off saving the dollar for a complete rifle.

Thank you all for the info. I think I'm getting a decent deal on it. Im buying it and a belgian 6.5 argentine in pretty good shape for $500 for both. I actually also restored another k98k that i bought a little bit ago. Its a mismatch. It was pretty fun though and reminded me a lot of doing scale models which is one of my favorite hobbies. Thats very interesting about it being a late 42 with a 43 stamp. Why do you think that would be the case?

Heres some before and after photos of the one i recently did

There were no double letter suffix rifles manufactured by Mauser-Oberndorf in 1943 onward. They used a letter block per month, typically going into 5 digit serial numbers.

Your receiver was already manufactured by late 42 and had the roll marks for the following year already stamped.
