byf 42 dd block find...

I acquired this K98 recently , a byf42 dd block in an un-sanded laminate stock. All visible #’s are matching. It has an impeccable bore.
The underside of the bolt handle is marked eagle 140. All other WaA’s are 135. Haven’t taken it apart to check the firing pin # or internal stock #’s yet.
Here are some pics.

At the risk of being tagged as a troller, that’s spectacular! Thanks for sharing it. I see an interesting mix of fine finishes & rougher areas. (receiver ring vs rear bridge) “Schnell, schnell!!

Fantastic byf42. In my personal experience 42’s are substantially tougher to find than 43’s and 44’s. I even see more 41’s than 42’s I think. Wonderful rifle.

Great find....the rare Byf42. Please let us know what you find on the inside for the serial numbered parts. Thanks

Nice!

FN bolt. On my own matching J (or U?) block byf 42 the bolt and front sight base are also WaA140 marked. My gun still has some earlier features, including a range scale on both sides of the rear sight leaf and the H milled upper band. Bolt heads are not serial numbered. The receiver ring also has a slight polish to it, though dulled somewhat today. The gun has a duffle cut neatly repaired and hidden under the lower band and is not importer marked.

The cleaning rod is serial numbered 73 instead of 37. A joa marked sling is original to the rifle but is not shown.

This is the only byf 42 98K that I've ever personally examined. The year and maker do seem to be more rare.

I noticed that too. Very odd. I dont understand the reasoning behind that.
Beautiful 42 though. I would like to see the sides of the reciever ring that
are hidden by the stock. I've been bluing guns for over 50 years. I recognize
a trick or two when I see it.
