Thanks to the forum member that assisted me in finally finding a nice byf 42. All Matching with a fresh coat of Ballistol oil on the metal, I've just began using it this year. Smells a little at first but seems to be some good stuff.

The tooling on the trigger guard screws are very interesting to see.

great photos.. Was there any date or code under the butt plate ? The bolt body and cocking piece are typical FN production. The E/140 is weak on this one but the MI is there along with the rest of the alphabet soup

Nice looking byf42 and in walnut too! Would be curious about the date code on the stock as well. I'm curious about the barrel code, it has a barrel code back in the original year-maker-lot format compared to the simplified one present for most of 1942. Would be interesting to see when exactly they went back to the full code, 1349gg apparently has the simplified "R" as a barrel code according to Vol IIa.

Per your request. I also included the barrel channels, I forgot to post them. Has an ink "5" on the stock barrel channel.

more than likely an "in house" mauser stock.. I didnt notice the purple in 5 in the channel earlier.. Super crisp wonderful example..

I am filling out a data sheet on this one and just realized the barrel is not numbered to the receiver.

Wear and color match.

Any thoughts?

I don't think the byf 42's had an s/n on the barrel. The manufacturers started numbering only the receivers or the barrel by then, but not both.
