Budget Single Claw Repro

Finally after a year of collecting pieces I finished my SC Repro! Found a "bubbaized" bnz43 in a junk sporter stock at a local gun shop for $180.00 The rifle had been blued and the rear sight projection for the upper handguard had been ground off. Down the road I found a zf39 on eBay for $199.00. It had soldered mounts and a roll engraved German gun makers name on the tube.
I had never disassembled a scope before. I learned a lot but I also accidentally destroyed the reticule. After much deliberation of what to use, a Physician friend located some very fine surgical needles for me. It certainly is not exactly like an original reticule but it came out pretty good. I hand sanded the scope which removed the engraving and cold blued it. A mount was $180.00 and I bought a correct stock from Mario for $225.00. I changed the rear sight and soldered the mounts on to the receiver. During my working years I installed refrigeration systems and I still had some low temp silver solder that worked well. I used clamps and a laser bore sight to align the scope and mounts. I would rather have a genuine but that is not in the "stars"! My total investment is less than $800.00.

I really enjoy this website and read all of the posts every day. Thanks to everybody. :hail:

Very, very nice job......Yea, I understand totally about scopes....I attempted to take apart a Kahles once and the main inside part, made of zinc, had all dark lines and after removing from the tube when just slightly handled, crumbled, and fell apart like dry old clay.

Again, nice job.

It shoots very well. I put almost 40 rounds through it. The last 10 were in a 3"circle at 100 yds. (resting on sand bags ) Good enough for my 71yo eyes! The scope didn't fall off either!:googlie

I just bought a K98 Yugoslav refurb and was thinking about adding a scope to it since I can't afford an original K98 sniper rifle either.

Did you put the mount on yourself? I'll have to take mine to a gun smith. Ugh.

Very nice!! Its funny I just picked up a Rough BNZ 4 this weekend at the gunshow. No numbers match but the bore is excellent. I was just reading on these last night and thinking on doing this very thing. Now I happen across your post. I may have to do this too!
I would also love to see some close up photos!! Kudos!

Here is mine

Not technically correct, but a nice representative example.
