Very common fate of bringbacks, these make very handy and light hunting rifles... do the right side of the receiver and look closely at the buttplate for markings, also the wrist (small) of the stock for ordnance work. This rifle stayed in government hands after the war, in actual military or police service, these (98a) are often fairly original and sometime unit marked (buttplate usually)

When you start you project (restore) take a shot of the barrel code, it should be just below the stock line near the barrel serial.

If you want to get a jump start on restoring, a member just listed two front bands and screws. Not common parts.

Thanks, have you the right side of the receiver? Normally this would inconsequential, but the a-block does have some variation, - specifically the center one. It's not very important really (most are of one pattern), but if you get the time post a picture of the right side.

Thanks either way!

** this may be an o-block, originally I though a-block, but this latest picture looks o-block, but the same applies to the o-block due to slight variations of the center acceptance...

Looks like someone on Gunboards just posted a bunch of handguards. Not necessarily listed for sale, but Kar98a handguards are tough to come by.

There was another gentleman here that was looking as well a couple months ago. Might be worth reaching out!
