Bubba'd front site base

Hello everyone, I recently picked up a G43 that bubba got ahold of and he installed a bead style front sight, shaved the wrist of the stock down which caused it to crack, stamped F and S on either side of the stock to mark the safety positions, and cut the tail off the dust cover so it was no longer able to hold under spring pressure. The bolt carrier shoe has also been brazed back on.

So far I have picked up a replacement front sight and dust cover. I plan on getting the stock from fox-miltary and getting the bolt carrier properly re-done by apfeltor. The dust cover was an easy swap, but when I went to do the front sight bubba must have widened the dovetail on the FSB because it is quite a bit wider than the replacement front sight I got and comparing it to my other K43 it definitly looks incorrect.

so my question is how would everyone go about fixing this? My idea is to remove the front sight base completely (Anyone have tips for doing this?), weld up material and then hand fit the new sight and refinish. Whoever did the hackjob sure did make a mess of the base so it looks like it needs to be touched up either way, plus the beadsight in there isnt even in straight! Before I begin that I would love some input and maybe some ideas

Here is an option.

Id assume the g43 front sight bases are attached like the k98ks, so they are most likely soldered on. Drive the pin out and put some heat on the front sight base where it sits around the barrel. Take your time to make sure you arent putting to much heat in any one spot.

I like the threaded muzzle and I am happy that you are going to take the time to restore this piece.

As stated above - remove the pin with a punch. I believe the front sight assembly is pressed fit vs soldered from memory, but I could be wrong. I had to replace the front sight assembly myself a few years back.. I believe there are two barrel contours, so make sure you order the front assembly with the correct dimensions. When replacing the sight assembly, I did need to remove some metal with a dremel tool to allow it to fit - I also used a reproduction - very likely from Frontline - they use to have both dimensions.

Fox is the best for stocks for sure!!!
